Our armed forces are increasingly including unmanned systems as a core element of their strategy—in fact, they are expected to make up 72% of the market for unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) spending over the next 10 years. The U.S. Navy will increasingly procure new unmanned undersea vehicles (UUVs) and substantially invest in UUV research and development, and the U.S. Army will increasingly fund unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) and invest in research on swarming, autonomous weapons.

However, existing systems only support 30 to 90 minutes of flight and 4 hours of undersea operation, and provide 6 to 10 times less bandwidth than what they need.
With the PowerLight platform, the military can deploy a large-scale power system with air, ground and undersea sensors that safely, securely and efficiently transmits electricity. Using high-intensity light, it can wirelessly transfer kilowatts of power by free-space laser or fiber optic cable.
