Test Engineer

Description

PowerLight Technologies is seeking a Test Engineer to join our innovation team to define and execute test plans, including characterization and verification of optical, mechanical, electrical, electronic, and software subsystems and components comprising optical power transmission systems.  Test team members will support development of test system requirements, designs, procurement (make/buy, fab, assembly, etc…) and commissioning execution.

As the leader in new-to-the-world optical power innovation (kilowatts over kilometers), PowerLight is looking for multiple talented and experienced technical team members that are ready to work, developing ground-breaking technology for real-world application. We are attacking the future of this science with a sense of urgency while keeping an eye on having fun along the way.

The right candidate will be an engineer with at least 2 years working experience in testing laser, photovoltaic, opto-mechanical systems.  This experience should include hands-on work developing test procedures and using automated test equipment for test executions and data capture, using software scripting for automation (python preferred).  They will be able to demonstrate experience working with DC power supplies, electronic loads, digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, thermal chambers and data acquisition systems.  This is a truly hands-on role but also requires excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to produce schematics, plans and other technical drawings.

The position is an integral part of PowerLight’s design and engineering team and reports to the Director of Engineering.

 

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in Engineering, or related disciplines with hands-on testing experience.

  • 2+ years industry experience
  • Experience developing / manufacturing / testing one or more products to a commercial, industrial or consumer market.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years industry experience
  • Experience with opto-mechanical systems or electo-mechanical systems such as:
    • LIDAR
    • Machine Vision
    • Optical tracking systems
    • Gimbles
  • Experience with FDA regulated products
  • Project planning/execution skills including estimating, scheduling and executing on committed schedules
  • Mindset and skills of a maker/builder/tinkerer/solution hacker
